Though the real fun begins at track 6 with Ain’t It Fun, a mid-tempo track with a great groove, a verse synth that has been ripped from every pop funk track ever, one of Jeremy Davis’ absolute best, motown-tinged basslines, xylophone popping up in unexpected places and a gospel choir having the time of their lives. Some of the stand out tracks include the infinitely-singable opener Fast In My Car and the lead single Now, a very tense track with a great sense of urgency and (albeit) an annoyingly clichéd chorus vocal hook. There are tracks on here that will forever be considered some of Paramore’s best work, and they are some of the ones that are unchartered territory for the band. When you remove what you know about the band and where they came from you are left with a solid record. The key to listening to Paramore is – funnily enough – not expecting or hoping it to sound anything like Paramore. And I’ll admit it – I went into my first listening with a certain expectation as to how it should sound and was a bit disappointed with what I heard.īut much like any sexual partner James Cameron has had, I persevered and kept trying in the hope that an upside would appear. Many critics seem to love it while fans have split into two camps about it. This album however, has been referred to as anything from “Paramore’s magnum opus” and a “genre-bending masterpiece” to “bloated and dead weight”. The few gems rise to the surface, the stinkers are silently forgotten and the majority of records wallow in 4-chord, angsty mediocrity. Though, I still hope we will see more of their punkish roots next time. There’s not many polarising bands or records in Pop-Punk. I usually don't it like when a band deviates so much from their sound, but on the other hand there are positive sides too. So because the new album is a lot softer than their first stuff (while still being paramore though) I think it opened a gateway for a lot of people into the world of altenative music (with that meaning punk, rock, etc.) That's because these 'new' fans are probably hungry for more and want to hear more stuff. These are all people I would have never expected them to listen to Paramore. Now lately I've been noticing more and more paramore fans in my school and town, most, if not all of them wearing a 'new' set of bandshirts/merch from the new album or listening to the new album. down before they even gave it a REAL chance. I feel like a lot of people turn down punk, metal, rock, etc. So I've always been complaining about how people are biased about 'non-mainstream' music. These are my thoughts on the latest album, not so much about the music but more about what impact it has on the 'music community'.
